About me

Within my practice I attempt to reconcile a preferred working method that favours intuition , expurgation and serendipity, with relevant research and analysis in order to provide for fresh insight and illumination. For in struggling to marry the pragmatic with the theoretical I would hope that the resulting antagonism would be conducive to the production of interesting and vital work.

I strongly believe that allowing free reign to my subconscious thought processes will negate the need for prior planning . Such contrivance has in the past only served to weigh my work down with a lumpen predictability . "Act and it will happen" , five words that sum up my entire outlook and philosophy . It is inevitable that the assimilation of fresh ideas and influences is a component part of this process but it is equally vital that such ideas are taken on board and then expurged in a way that is seamless and organic .

A pragmatic existentialist, I consider all art as aspiring toward a regressive state beyond language and connotation in which the world is experienced in a truly authentic way. Art = sensate = visceral = real. The art work should afford entry into a liminal state beyond mere representation and signification . Experience through sublimation.

I believe that art should transport us to a place that is ultimately unknowable , a state of interstesis in which flashes of pure phenomena might be the ultimate prize ? It is this idea that is central to my practice.
